Holiday baked goods and gift boxes are now available at Sweet Thea Bakery. Last year’s pop-up shop at 4305 Main Street in Vancouver was a success; it’s now a permanent storefront, offering everything Thea’s ovens produce. Tall Shadow Bakery is a new craft sourdough bakery located between Nanaimo and Kamloops Street. They have evolved from farmer markets to this new permanent location. Outside of great bread, they offer Holiday Sugar Cookie Decorating and Gingerbread House Kits and Cookie Boxes in small and large. This is a favourite spot not only for their amazing bread, but something I’ve come to love financiers made from mostly almond flour.

They have a great selection of artisan breads, celebration cake, pastries and a whole lot more including pizza. Holy cannoli, this spot has a great selection of Italian sweet treats. This Italian bakery makes one of our favourite things, St. Honore cakes. Others may try and imitate, but personally we think theirs is hands down the best.

It comes with a side of butternut squash soup, which is perfect for dipping (if you’re not dipping your grilled cheese sandwiches into soup, then what are you doing?). The new location also has ample seating, accommodating around 25 guests indoors, supplemented by a quaint set of patio chairs outside. Additionally, akin to their Tsawwassen outpost, the store includes a dedicated wall showcasing a variety of products from local brands. Sweet Thea sweet thea bakery is currently soft-opened, but its grand opening is slated for March 16. While you can’t grab it yet, we were told a breakfast/brunch menu will be added once it’s officially open. Additionally, the bakery features an open concept with large windows that allow customers to observe the bread-making process.

“We’ve been working at this for about 10 years,” Thea told us that it all started with a pop-up during the pandemic and that they received a great response from the community. For the convenience of the locals, the new Sweet Thea location operates daily from 7 AM to 7 PM. Distinguishing itself from the previous Main Street site, the new location offers coffee, specifically from 49th Parallel Coffee, similar to their Tsawwassen Quay branch. One of the highlights of this location is its open kitchen, positioned on the far right, allowing locals to witness the magic firsthand. While we could spend hours raving about the bread, there are more baked goods to discuss, specifically the palmiers. Two thick slices of Sweet Thea’s sourdough are toasted with ooey-gooey cheese and caramelized onions.

The success of the pop-up led to Sweet Thea’s dedicated storefront on Main Street in 2021. This location quickly became a beloved spot in the community. Sweet Thea’s journey began over a decade ago when co-founders Thea and Laurie started offering their European artisan baked goodies at various markets throughout BC. This delicious bread is also used on other menu items like the caramelized mushroom toast. Arugula and mushrooms are placed onto a crispy piece of sourdough and topped with a generous helping of pecorino Romano cheese.

All their delish items can be delivered to your door including their flours should you wish to try your hand at baking. Added bonus, they feature quite a few recipes on their website. Many options to choose from including Pumpkin Pie Galette, Butter Tart Bar, Pear Custard Buns, Cinnamon Raisin Bread and so much more.
